INTERPRETATION
Lactose is used as a source of fermentable carbohydrates
for bacteria in fermentation tests (i.e. Escherichia
coli ferments lactose whilst Salmonella
typhimurium gives a negative reaction). It is not hygroscopic and is free
from other sugars and from starch, proteins and metals.
STORE
The powder is very hygroscopic. Store the powder at room
temperature, in a dry environment, in its original container tightly closed and
use it before the expiry date on the label or until signs of deterioration are
evident.
